Computer software is protected by copyright. Not only the code, itself, but also the resulting images, the look and feel, and other non-functional aspects. Copyright registration is important for a number of reasons, and it can be complex. Most software developers do not want to publish their code; they want to keep it as a trade secret. Likewise, software is not very valuable if it is not licensed. Software license agreements, Master service agreements, and software service agreements, are just some of the types of contracts used in software protection, and they can be very complex. Digital rights management (DRM), GNU, and open source issues come into play, also.
